Oban 1999 Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Next in our line of Distillers Edition releases from Diageo. The Oban Distillers Edition, funnily enough from the Oban distillery. We're really dropping the ball with hard-to-pronounce Gaelic distilleries as Oban is pronounced pretty much how it's spelt. It is aged to 14 years in oak casks and then aged a further 6-18 months in Montilla fino sherry casks. Where the Talisker Distillers Edition from last month had the characteristic peatiness typical of Talisker, the Oban is smooth and slightly sweet with the sherry coming through.

The nose immediately shows off the sherry cask influence. Sweetness, dried fruits, giving almost a brandy-style sweetness.

The palate is entirely matching the nose. Instantly tasting the sweetness of the sherry with spice, fruit and even a bit of a citrus taste towards the end.

So far the Distillers Editions have not failed to impress. Expect to find more examples in future months.
