Now onto the Orkney Islands. The next whisky is Highland Park Einar (apparently pronounced I-n-ar).
Bearing no age statement it would be a safe bet to say this is somewhere in the 10-12 year old range based on the colour and the flavour. The bottle is quite interesting. There is a big f#@koff axe on the front of it! I’m going to feel like a Viking drinking this, but I think Vikings drank mead or something. I’ve got some mead but this isn’t the Melbourne Mead Club. Those pansies live down the road.
Onto the good part. Smelling it there are slight notes of smoke and almost a little bit of vanilla just coming through. Time to taste.
What an unexpected gem!! Seriously it’s about to sound like the distiller is kicking back some endorsements to us. Although Highland Park if you’re reading this I’d totally spruik for you in exchange for more whisky. The smoke, vanilla and citrus are all present in perfect proportion. A bit of the Oak Sherry casks it was aged in come through as well. Such a pleasant whisky to drink. I’ll definitely be getting another glass when I finish writing this.
